Beat-It Program
Beat-It is a program of exercise classes and education developed by Diabetes Australia for patients with diabetes. These classes are also suitable for patients with other chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or obesity.
The Beat-It program consists of the following:
- One-on-one initial assessment with an exercise physiologist to establish some baseline measurements, discuss your goals and to show you the exercises you will be doing in the classes.
- 16 group exercise classes over 8 weeks (2 classes per week, 60 minutes each), instructed by a Beat-It qualified exercise physiologist.
- 6 education sessions (30 minutes each) to discuss diet, exercise and lifestyle changes to help manage your condition.
- A final assessment (as part of the final class) to reassess the measurements taken at the initial appointment and demonstrate the improvements achieved over the 8 weeks.

See our fees page to see current pricing for our classes. Please note that if you would like to join us for one of our classes, we ask you to book an initial consultation appointment first so that we can assess your suitability and show you the appropriate exercises.
**Note: If you have Type 2 diabetes and your doctor has referred you into the Beat-It program under the Medicare Allied Health Group Exercise Referral, you are eligible for partial Medicare funding of both the initial assessment (Medicare will pay $67.90 of the fee) as well as 8 classes (Medicare will pay $16.95 of each class fee).
Apart from Medicare funding, our exercise classes and the initial consultation are also eligible for private health insurance rebates.
